Morgan le Fay: A Retelling (Single Version)

Well, you've heard tell of my brother
But here is another
Great story that I would
Just like to share

I was born in a castle
Jutting out the Cornish coast
But the years within the isle
Were the ones I loved the most

It was there I learned secrets
It was there I stood tall
When I parted misty curtains
And the apples there did fall

It's now said I was hateful
Strange and cruel and deceitful
But I ask you to pay heed
To all that I will tell

My People were in danger
From a wave of blinding dark
It was Ignorance I fought
With my sacred, magic spark

Had I not done all I did
Seen the truth so clear and stark
Our ways would have been lost
For all time - hark!

I've had powers since a young girl
Knew my herbs, played harp, spells unfurled
But people fear what they can't grasp
Despise what they can't learn

My mother, she forgot me
The Lady, she did love me
But at length, she did betray me too
When a summer's rite
Did leave me with a child

By the brother I had known
But did not know was there grown
Disguised as one who
wore the forest's cloak

I gave my kin my babe
He grew to hate his seed
Rose up, was slain by sire
And did wound my brother dire

There was a knight whom
I had loved
He chose the queen
Red Arthur's fine white dove

The tales say I loathed her
That's not so; she was my sister
And I hoped we could transcend
The difference in our colors
Opposing roles the others made us play

At the heart of many sorrows
Lies the fear of the tomorrows
That are wrought by the mistakes
You made today

And at the soul of my heartbreak
Was the battle I fought yesterday
Thinking that by force I could
Return us to our old ways
We'll come again
