Colors

A kaleidoscope of colors reflected from her eyes into the world
But all he saw was a wash of blue from inside his spinning pearl
A parade of smoke trailing after some long-faded memory
Only hoping for each other a laughter in seeing what they could see

She described to him a brook that sprung from a field full of spring
And a silver wash of moonlight that fell in miraculous strings
He set upon his canvas the words she painted in his heart
As he looked inside her eyes and saw the perfection of her art

He described to her an autumn sky that hung above a silent ocean
An endless stretch of ridges dyed in the smoke and the setting sun
She set upon her pen and paper the visions he knew so well
As she closed her eyes and listened to the gentleness of his tale

He sat inside his world of blue and she inside his painting
The other hardly remembered the colors they each had given
A matchlock black threatened a memory of colors long faded
They remembered far too late the precious colors they each had awaited
