The Ambush
Primal bellow
Sudden
Savage
Pierces the veil of night
Flashes
Figures
Overwhelming
Cornered
Tired
We were not ready
To fight
Breaking bones
Screeching steel
Eyes see red
Filled with zeal
We are outnumbered three to one as they draw near
We will fight tooth and claw or die here
They smoke us out, we cannot longer hide
And so we make our final stand
Despair takes hold of me, this will be our grave
There seem to be too many, our fate is surely sealed
I see my brothers fall, there is nothing I can do
But there, a breach, a flank is weakening
I recollect myself from my faintheartedness
This is our chance
With wrath we strike to push their lines away
The move is bold, and caught them unawares
Rushing in, I feel my racing heart
I slaughter two of them, this may yet turn the tide
Their numbers dwindle, too late to call retreat
We take out each invader that was there
The last one of the bastards falls onto the ground
Exhausted, I collapse
I look around
And breathe
The first rays of a new day touch the sky
Bestowing their warm grace upon the broken frames
A breeze caresses their bloodied tangled hair
A whispered lullaby in a long forgotten tongue
Oh the stillness, the splendor of this sight
Takes my breath away and freezes me in awe
This fleeting moment is enough to comprehend
The insignificance of all our petty squabbles
The putrid smell of death will turn into a blooming scent
The bees will once again make honey in the lion's skull
The corpses of the ones we loved will be devoured by the earth
We will return to whence we came and the old sun won't even know
