poem of the free

Oh, as I drive by
The place where I once lived
I'm mesmerized, why?
These memories hit different
I asked them to teach me to swim
But they didn't, now I'm drowning
I wonder who's my next of kin
It's my sins, they're engraved in my skin

I float as I follow the breeze
So don't come looking for me, please

If one day I leave
And curl up like dry leaves
I'll hope no one finds me
I'll sit under pine trees, and I'll sing in peace
The poem of the free

If one day I bleed
And crumble like dry leaves
I'll call no one, I'll sleep
And make peace with my deeds
But I may no longer speak
So feel my melody
It goes like—

Though I said I dive
The truth is that I fell
Eyes love to find shine
Don't mind how blind they get
So what if I didn't exist?
Know for sure it won't change a thing
Burden of being a burden's too big
So why would it shock anyone if—?

I float as I follow the breeze
So don't come looking for me, please
(Ooh, ooh)
(Ooh, ooh)

If one day I leave
And curl up like dry leaves
I'll hope no one finds me
I'll sit under pine trees, and I'll sing in peace
The poem of the free

If one day I leave
And curl up like dry leaves
I'll hope no one finds me
I'll sit under pine trees, and I'll sing in peace
The poem of the free

If one day I bleed
And crumble like dry leaves
I'll call no one, I'll sleep
I'll make peace with my deeds
But I can no longer speak
So feel my melody
It goes like—
