Song of a Shepherd

The lonesome life
Breeds a cautious man
With a wary heart
But a capable hand
He tends his flock
With love and care
Take away his pasture
And watch him fall in despair

A shepherd keeps his flock
And tends them well
I did my task with pride
And I raised my sheep to sell
But wicked men in city clothes
Stole my flock today
All I did was raise my voice
Before I was locked away

The wolves are circling
They'll soon be at the door
I've driven them back
So many times before
But I'm not the man
I used to be
Why does my flock
Run away from me?
