Summer Vacation

My son came home one day in March
Found a place in front of the Xbox
And glued his mind on the screen for the next four months
As the world crumbled around him

I kept on going to work just trying to make ends meet
Fearing for my life
Jumping at every cough but holding my head up
Telling my son that

We're
All afraid
About what the future will bring
Hold
Onto me
And we'll make it through together

My job closed down in the middle of June
And I was stuck at home with the boy
Who fought me begged me called me a failure
Lord knows it really felt that way

Mom said 'you'll always have a roof over your head'
Dad offered to buy me groceries
But in the end I broke down in front of the boy
He held me close and he said

We're
All afraid
About what the future will bring
Hold
Onto me
And we'll make it through together

That which was once terrifying and new
Will soon reveal unmatched resilience
If you thought that you we're weak
Well you've been proven wrong

Just
Take a breath
And move the way the world does
A
Tragic dance
But dancing nonetheless

We're
All afraid
About what the future will bring
Hold
Onto us
And we'll make it through together

We're
Not afraid
About what the future will bring
Hold
Onto us
And we'll make it through together
