Words

My excess thoughts bleed through the page
Like a pen that's not been dripped
Spew from my mouth a current of words
While muddy banks begin to slip

Smearing lines that connect my verbs
Rapidly rushing from their source
Should I trust my words to not run dry
Before they leave her sweet lips first?

Who am I that I could deny what's deemed just within your mind?
The sticks are thrown heavy as stone
Love can be so, so unkind

Oh, how I've longed to be your cool drink
To wash down all your dark days
To quench a thirst
I've waited to ask
Shattered glass now lies in our way

Who would've thought by moving here
We'd curb an ache and love without fear?
Who would've thought heartbreak could float?
Who would've thought we'd end up here?
