My Badge

My badge says I'm an addict
That I've been through the wars
I've passed out under bridges
I have known to many floors

I'm the very worst of human kind
Least that's what some believe
Till they find they love an addict
So maybe if you please

Say a prayer for human kind
Say a prayer for me
We're sick from our addictions
From our poison and our need
Yet one by one and day by day
We gather in the light
We are the survivors
The sparkles in the night

I can't tell you why it happened
Don't recall a bloody thing
But my buddy saw him hit me
With his big old wedding ring

And he tore that silly flap of skin
Right off my silly face
Left this little badge of honour
Or maybe it's disgrace

Say a prayer for human kind
Say a prayer for me
We're sick from our addictions
From our poison and our need
Yet one by one and day by day
We gather in the light
We are the survivors
The sparkles in the night

My badge is now a part of me
I'll tell you why it's there
I'll give you honest answers
I'll lay my cupboards bare

The truth of me is ugly
Least the parts of it I fear
Addiction almost had me
By Gods good grace I'm here
By Gods good Grace I'm here

Say a prayer for all the children
Those at home and in the streets
They are someone's little angel
Getting lost out in the weeds
Don't be looking with your blind eye
Like the other humans do
You believe that it can't happen
Yeah that's just what I thought too
That's just what I thought
