She Cries in Poetry

She cries in poetry
And happy endings that aren't her style
She is a beacon for things
That never were worthwhile
But at least they taught her lessons
That she writes into oblivion
She does not ask for permission
She makes her own decisions

She is drowning in a sea of epitaphs
And she's the one who made past
The storm and fire
But that's not enough for me
Or enough for you
And that's what she writes about
How it's not enough to make it out
But what you make of it
We tell her

Cry baby, give us poetry

Oh how she wishes to be free
From those ghosts in her head that never really leave
From the cracks in her judgement she tries to relieve
Repair through a broken man but there's nowhere nowhere to turn but a page
A refrain
Bird in a cage
While she stands in rage
They cry dance for me
Give us poetry

She cries in allegories
In stories, fake glory
She writes an ending different from her own
An ending she prays is all that is known
She cries for us
The meaningless
Those impoverished of love
And ridden of power

She writes us a way out
We all shout her words
But we are spoken over
By someone all too heard
Thought I'd grow up to be just like her
But now I'm just grown
Roots breaking through glass and empty promises from a heart that isn't my own

She cries in poetry
And happy endings she knows aren't true
She is a beacon they say
For what not to do
But she writes us anyway
She writes in all the pain
'Cause what is love without a little pain
A loss of love is the world's gain

My god she is the answer
Won't you hear the words she says
The truth of life is in her head
And she could stop the end

My god, she could stop the end
