Project 7
The lamppost is bright and yellow
My body's frozen and upright
The lamppost is bright and yellow
I stare into your eyes as your back's turned to me
Your head is shaped like a drop of rain
Seconds prior to splashing on plains
Of rhodes grass in Michigan,
The prairie in between the things
That scared me as a kid,
The dark, the forest, the loneliness
Your lips were cold and lifeless,
I kissed a corpse in the dark
Your lips scared me with their sharpness,
Like blades of grass in the park
And now I walk that path
Every Monday after class
And sometimes I can't breathe
When I hear footsteps on the driveway
Not because I hope it's you,
But because I think I might start running
Before I stop and take a breath
And cough it up before I swallow
I tried to learn to skate at the base of my road
And that's a memory I'd forget by now
If my sister didn't photograph me
Sitting on the concrete
In the dark beneath the lamppost
Which is too bright and too yellow
And it hurts my eyes
It's too bright and too yellow
And it hurts my eyes
Your lips were cold and lifeless,
I kissed a corpse in the dark
Your lips scared me with their sharpness,
Like blades of grass in the par
My body's frozen and upright
The lamppost is bright and yellow
I stare into your eyes as your back's turned to me
Your head is shaped like a drop of rain
Seconds prior to splashing on plains
Of rhodes grass in Michigan,
The prairie in between the things
That scared me as a kid,
The dark, the forest, the loneliness
Your lips were cold and lifeless,
I kissed a corpse in the dark
Your lips scared me with their sharpness,
Like blades of grass in the park
And now I walk that path
Every Monday after class
And sometimes I can't breathe
When I hear footsteps on the driveway
Not because I hope it's you,
But because I think I might start running
Before I stop and take a breath
And cough it up before I swallow
I tried to learn to skate at the base of my road
And that's a memory I'd forget by now
If my sister didn't photograph me
Sitting on the concrete
In the dark beneath the lamppost
Which is too bright and too yellow
And it hurts my eyes
It's too bright and too yellow
And it hurts my eyes
Your lips were cold and lifeless,
I kissed a corpse in the dark
Your lips scared me with their sharpness,
Like blades of grass in the par
