Chalk

Twilight time, I take a walk
I come across a piece of chalk
Upon the wall, I make a mark
I mark some more, it's getting dark
Streetlight shines electric blue
I'm making marks without a clue
From deep inside it's coming though
The marks I make look like you

Chalk marks skip across the bricks
Mistakes I make can't be fixed
I think my eyes are playing tricks
The marks I make look a lot like you

I'm not too good, can't draw at all
Not good enough for the bathroom wall
But clearly it is you that I do scrawl
Still your name, I can't recall
On my toes I stretch and strain
My aching arm, my burning brain
I scribble right on through the pain
The marks I make look a lot like you

Chalk marks skip across the bricks
Mistakes I make can't be fixed
I think my eyes are playing tricks
The marks I make look a lot, they look a lot like you

The wind comes up, it starts to rain
My piece of chalk, it starts to wane
Still I wonder, who's to blame
As my marks of you run down the drain
