Back To Yesterday

Kids these days just don't understand
The way things used to be
Everything was better when I grew up
As any idiot can plainly see

You could ride your bike till after dark
Every kid had a mom and a dad
You could trust the cops and the teachers
And the preachers, they never did anything bad

But speaking of moms they were all at home
Taking care of the kids and the house
They didn't think they were better than men
It sure ain't like that now

It's better if it's seasoned
It's better if it's old
I got no basis for my opinions
But that's just what I've been told

I want my Fender pre-CBS
'Cause that's when they made real guitars
I don't wanna hear no post-crash Dylan
By then he was just another superstar

We didn't have no hip-hop or rap
But that ain't music to me
And the Blacks got played on their own stations
And there weren't so many of 'em on TV

You could go to a ball game and not have to sit
With folks who aren't your kind
And the players were all kinds of ethnics
But they were pretty much all white, all right

It's better if it's seasoned
It's better if it's old
I got no basis for my opinions
But that's just what I've been told

I'll never forget my fastback Mustang
Yeah that's when they made real cars
And gas was 29 cents a gallon
Even if a gallon didn't get you too far

But then the Japanese flooded the market
With reliable boring machines
And now everything else is made in China
Yeah we shipped your job overseas

So unless you're some kinda college boy
I bet an immigrant took your place
I don't understand why we can't kick 'em out
And go back to yesterday

It's better if it's seasoned
It's better if it's old
I got no basis for my opinions
But that's just what I've been told

Kids these days just don't understand
The way things used to be
Everything was better when I grew up
As any idiot can plainly see

You could ride your bike till after dark
Every kid had a mom and a dad
You could trust the cops and the teachers
And the preachers, they never did anything bad

But speaking of moms they were all at home
Taking care of the kids and the house
They didn't think they were better than men
It sure ain't like that now
