He stopped there for a minute
He said he'd like to talk if I could bear to listen
And like that we went from strangers to true and trusted friends
Swollen eyes told me everything
About him wandering this wilderness looking out for signs
To point him back two years ago
To when he knew his wife
Before life with her addiction was like breathing without oxygen
And love meant something

About how it came to this
Despite all the things he tried
How we walks to clear his head and stay in the light

He carries down inside of him a deep and burning rage
Making plans to fix it all by kicking ass and taking names
Of each of her enablers, especially that old flame
That she kindled up and followed to a place too far away

But that's not who he is
Never one to start a fight

Quietly agreed that I would share some of his pain
