Cottonwood

Cottonwood floats like snow
In the summertime
Fills a lake of memories
Sunshine for my mind
Smell of burning marshmallows
By a campfire as it glows
Make a wish... make a wish
There's a shooting star

That world was amazing
We didn't know how good it was then
Talking until the sun came up again

Beautiful nights I remember
Those fireflies
Dancing through the willow trees
Twinkling like your eyes
Illuminating oh so bright
Sunset paints a perfect sky
That was yours... that was yours and mine

Take me back just one more time
To share a laugh and a bottle of cheap wine
We'll watch the stars collide
Then fall to the ground
Just like cottonwood coming down

You were always there to be
My partner in crime
The distance in between us
Makes it hard to go on trial

That world was amazing
We didn't know how good it was then
Talking until the sun came up
Never a moment of hesitation
Open eyes we'd dive right in
Setting fires
Till the sun came up again
