Old Dirt Road

It's hard to believe what I heard today
Remember the place where we once played
On that old dirt road where we all first met
Playing soldiers in the woods like vietnam vets
We were football stars crashing model t cars
With fireflies trapped in mason jars
Climbing through the fences just to see where we could go
We were just children playing on that old dirt road

Our heads in the clouds soaring through the skies
We always knew that we would be the good guys
The kind of cowboys you would ride the river with
Never once dreaming of paddling through mist
But we somehow ignorantly strayed from that path
Struggling separately to find our way back
We swam against the current till we all got lost
I never thought my friend that you would pay the cost

On that old dirt road where we all once played
Shooting the bad guys and saving the day
On that old dirt road where we lost our way
I'll follow you down there again someday

Everyone must go some when they're young
and some when they're old
I thought for sure we would drown
wading in a redfish hole.

On that old dirt Road where we all once played
Shooting the bad guys and saving the day
On that old dirt dirt road where we lost our way
I'll follow you down there again someday
