Catching Smoke

You can reach into me and pull out what you like
If you know how to catch smoke, give it a try
You can breathe into me
But my lungs are too shy
I'll blush in shades of grey as you sigh

I can't take hold of a savior's hand as a ghost of who I was
I take my cues from wasted youth
And look away from blatant truths
But they don't need my permission

You can fray all the strings just to tease a getaway
But a puppet steered with guilt deserves to stay
You can take hold of me and profess a mighty love
Still, I will not believe you
It's a bluff

I can't take hold of a savior's hand as a ghost of who I was
I take my cues from wasted youth
And look away from blatant truths
But they don't need my permission

You can lay me to rest
Don't forget to say "goodbye"
Or I'll linger in the wind that tickles the chimes
You can dig up the grave
Salt and burn all my bones
I'll get up and grab a beer
Feels like home

You can reach into me and pull out what you like
You can reach into me
Reach into me
