The Meeting Place
Yumalundi.
Adventure St acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians
of the land on which this EP is produced
we pay our respects to all first nations people
and acknowledge elders past present and emerging
in particular the Ngunnwal and Ngambri peoples
of which this song has ties to
We can take the heat
Yeah we can handle cold
Coz we know one day it'll change
Just like our single lane roads
And we don't mind that you say
That we've got no soul
Because the secret is
We've never paid a toll
Canberra's what the white fella calls this space
And the local mob know it as Ngunnawal country
But all of us who call it home know it as the meeting place
It only takes us 20 minutes
To get from A to B
Yeah we are so well planned
Even our suburbs have themes
We've got some houses on a hill
A parliament it's called
We've got an owl in Belconnen
That represents them all
Canberra's what the white fella calls this space
And the local mob know it as Ngunnawal country
But all of us who call it home know it as the meeting place
We're a fan of the colour green
Here in the ACT
You can smoke it, you can vote it,
You can put it on the jersey of our favourite Rugby League team
Yeah the Capitals is both our place in the world
And our basketball team that's the best
And we're proud to be Canberran with a Brumby on our chest
Our music scene is legit
It's full of connoisseur's
We're talking muso's and all of you
Quite simply superb
And give it up for music venues
Where all the magic occurs
And our most favourite joint is
Well it's too hard to choose!
Canberra's what the white fella calls this space
And the local mob know it as Ngunnawal country
But all of us who call it home know it as the meeting place
Winter in Canberra
Is fiercely beautiful
It won't stop us living
Our charmed rugged up life
That climb up Black Mountain
Gets the blood pumping through
The reward at the top
Is the stunning foggy view
In the chilled early morn
I think of this view
60,000 years ago
When our Indigenous Aunties and Uncles
Would've climbed it like we do now
What a change has occurred
But do they think it's progress
Or have we regressed
Canberra's what the white fella calls this space
And the local mob know it as Ngunnawal country
But all of us who call it home know it as the meeting place
