A Horseman Came Riding One Day

A horseman came riding a riding one day
Upon his steed of silvery grey
His eyes fell upon a glorious sight
A raven haired maiden in a gown that was white

Good morning to you said the young man
May I ask your name and where you are bound
My name is of no consequence to you
Nor where I am travelling travelling to

You know of course that this forest is famed
For giants goblins and dragons untamed
On hearing this the maid stopped short
And began to give her journey some thought

Eleanor sir is my given name
And my home is to where where I am bound
So she rode with him into the forest so deep
But they didn't hear the evil beast creep

From out of the trees a dragon appeared
Barring their way as they had feared
With nostrils aflame and eyes ablaze
The bold young man returned the beast's gaze

His hand reached down to grab his sword
And at them the beast savagely roared
At the dragon's heart the brave man struck
And killed that dragon with more than good luck

The creature died before their own eyes
And the young man had gained a precious prize
His future decided in that very place
As he held Eleanor in a tender embrace
