Stale Bread

I've recognised that I've reached a point in life
Where I'm drawing from reserves and what I've built up over time
In order to look biblical I've become predictable
Like a favoured verse in Jeremiah chapter 29

How many coffees will it take?
How many walks discussing where my faith is at?
Before I finally pick up my Bible
'Cos I'm a mediocre disciple
Masquerading as a leader who's got their life together
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's a subtle kind of art to dress up and play the part
Of a Christian who grew up in church but now has a hardened heart
Crippled by apathy and scared of authenticity
That it might reveal and expose the storm that rages on inside

How many Sundays will go by?
When did I learn the lie that stale bread satisfies?
'Cos all the worship songs that I'm leading
And all the tears in the prayer meetings
Can't sustain me like I know your Spirit does
But I've realised I'm living off the crumbs

Jesus, Jesus
You are my daily bread

Jesus, Jesus
You are my daily bread

Jesus, Jesus
You are my daily bread
