Listen
Listen, the Lord wants to talk to you
You see, in the beginning, He used to walk with us, till sin came and replaced trust
Then we had to move, cause God is just
So it's long distance now, an unfortunate must
And though we are but dust, slowly learning to adjust, preoccupied with self and stuff
He still seeks to speak with us
Heaven's calling earth, but we don't answer the phone, no
We don't look to the throne, it's straight to voicemail when He calls as if no one were
Home
We'd rather not be bothered, content to live off bread alone
See, our appetites have been altered by a world we made our own
Prone to pursuing a one-sided relationship, that makes about as much sense as a plant
Refusing to be watered and then wondering why it hasn't grown since
Now I'm convinced, that that's not living though, not at all
It's treating them like insurance, when or if we fall, but what if we were willing to
Listen and actually accepted the call
Opened our ears, changed our position, it took a moment to pause
Whom shall I send and whom shall go for us
Here I am Lord, send me
Hold on Lord, maybe, maybe you'd be better off letting somebody else do it
You understand right
I mean I got you, but how about another night
How about another life
How about, I'm busy doing what I like
And I'm afraid of what you might say, honestly, I want your mercy and I want your grace, I
Want your peace, but I really don't have time to seek your face
Ain't that what the preachers for
I showed up on Sabbath like all my other habits, but now you're telling me that you Want more
Something about a lifestyle and discipline
But are you really keeping score
I hope not
I'm starting to think of my time with you as more of a chore
I know
What if you gave me a sign
A sign I couldn't ignore
Then I'd listen
See, that's what you're missing
Look at your approach
You're patient, invisible, with no audible voice to listen to
And I'm supposed to read this book to hear from you
There's got to be an easier way for me to find out what's true
How about a clue
Can you hear it
What is that
How can you tell
Is it that still, small voice or that rumble in the jungle
That thunder on the mountain or that ripple in the puddle
Does he make himself explicit or is it something subtle
See his voice breaks the cedars and he so can't wait to meet us, send his son down Here
To lead us
Leaders know that was Jesus, but some followers just want him to feed us or grant our Wishes
Not satisfied with his sacrifice and the fact that he freed us
And though we are often waywardly ambitious, prepped and ready to reject his riches for
Promises that are fundamentally fictitious, surprisingly he still wants to talk
And he could have easily just dismissed us
So why is it that we do not or cannot listen
Is it too hard to make some time for him and only him to set aside an hour early before
Our day begins
What about at breakfast or lunch or any time of the day
See I got this hunch that even Jesus needed to fast and pray to stay close and hear What
His father had to say
And by the way, if he's our source, wouldn't it make all the sense in the world to try
To stay plugged in
Not a mindless routine, but an impulse that comes from wanting to fall in love with him
Nevertheless, perhaps it is with the many competing noises that his voice begins to
Blend and grow indistinct
They say turn down for what
And I say what you think
So that we can hear from him, try to get near to him and then establish a link
Back up our faith, transfer our problems and get our hearts to sync
Wirelessly clear out some space and update to a better version of seeking God's face
Now, how good is your service with a weak internet connection, too many people on The
Network and no security question
Not very, but I'm guessing
And likewise, how hard would it be to hear from God and get direction with so many Other
Things colonizing and then occupying your potential
Because when it comes to distractions, we have quite the collection
What's in yours
Is it a family, television, a career, a hobby or a friend
Is it sleep, working out, social media, school, or does it just depend
When was the last time you just rode in the car with no music, sat in the crowd with your
Smartphone and didn't use it, decided not to have all the answers and realized the extent
To which we are all pretty much clueless
See Solomon knew this and wanted to hear from God more than he wanted gold, Strength, even
Wisdom
He said, Lord, you have the words of eternal life and then some
Furthermore, if we don't hear from him in these end times, then we're in trouble because
The world is going to be calling good evil and evil good as morality starts to crumble
When everything is relative, it paves the way for us to stumble
Yet another good reason for us to study God's word and be humble
We have to know in who and what we believe or run the risk of being lost, confused, Manipulated
Or even deceived
He said, my sheep hear my voice and another they will not follow
You see, we have a choice
The more time we spend with him, the less time we spend with sorrow
And from any daily decision to our purpose for living, this much is a given
It is he who holds tomorrow
But first, we must be willing to listen
And that's good news because there's hope in it
However, not reading his word is like having a check in the mail, but never opening it
Absurd and a one way ticket to regret
Now, finally, once we commit and prepare ourselves to connect with the creator in the space where
Grace and obedience intersect, spending as much time with him as we do the rest, then
It'll be easier to discern his voice from that of the world's devils in our flesh
No longer forced to guess or take someone else's word for it and stress
But what's next
After he speaks and after our spirits are stirred
Well, what's important is that we act on what we've heard
Remember, the goal is for us to become doers and not just hearers of his word
You see, in the beginning, He used to walk with us, till sin came and replaced trust
Then we had to move, cause God is just
So it's long distance now, an unfortunate must
