The Morning Song

I woke up early Thursday morning
Turned the coffee on
And looked out my window
Dew upon St. Augustine
Confessions to the sun
Cleansing my spirit

The sun rose in your eyes
Resting for an early rise

So I poured a cup
And then
I opened up the blinds
And from behind
I came up to her, kissed her neck
Sent shivers down her spine
Told her just how grateful that I was that she was mine

And then she looked at me and said
"I'd like to stay in bed"
And I could not argue
And so I quickly closed the blinds
Forgot about the time
Few chances to be two
Like songbirds we sang all day
Our melody would not go away

So I opened up my case
And tried to keep up with her pace
I added words to melody
She then kissed me
Shivers down my spine
I told her just grateful that I was she was mine
Oh songbird, what can I say
If you were here today

I've dreamt this dream a hundred times
And woken up alone
And only beside me
Whispering not quietly
The ringing of a phone
A voice that is empty
But you tapped my line
Amd my sun, it began to shine

You filled my cup
And then
You opened my blinds
And from inside I'll call out to you
See right through you
Shivers down your spine
Tell you just how grateful that I am that you are

Oh songbird, what can I say
If you were here today
We could write a melody
We could sing all

Oh songbird (oh songbird)
Oh songbird (oh songbird)
Oh songbird (oh songbird)
Oh songbird (oh songbird)
