Poet's Tooth

You broke off my poet's tooth
While I was sleeping
To use in your strange perfume
There it is, still steeping

Somnambulist with candelabra
Walking to the gallows
A fly stuck in the castle web
A spider for my pillow

By the hearth of hieroglyphics
Burned the hissing cauldron
Like a flower dying backwards
Whispered incantations

A potent pipe smoke on your breath
Below the waxing gibbous
A little madness in your smile
What will the goblin give us?

A tear for beauty
You can love the saddest story
Rarer gems than tears
Will decorate your crowning glory
You plucked it like a bloom
From the mouth of muck and mire
You didn't get the root

Dig deeper still if you desire
The pulchritude of sweet perfume
Won't cover up the stench of want

You broke off my poet's tooth
While I was sleeping
To wear under the worm moon
There I found you creeping

Your cloak removed
To dance in your enchanted coronation
The ancient throne was claimed before
A vulgar imitation

Astral breadcrumbs lead you
To the jeweled gate guarding treasure
Songs from the celestial bodies
Prisoners of pleasure

You have the key right in your pocket
Had it all along
The rarest music slept for centuries
'Til you sang your song

Close your eyes
And see yourself where you are going
You're intoxicated by the comfort of not knowing
Down the corridor
Some magic for your journey
Spiders weaving spells in every corner that you're turning
The gate is gilt and heavy
Find the strength to push it open
