Fatal Absolution

Faded blue eyes stare so bitterly
Each room is silent, yet they scream
Mourning past joys, all now memories
Of timeless all-forgotten dreams

His gaze falls upon
His open hands-once strong
Now sore-his knuckles
They're gnarled defective claws
Glancing left, he spots his chair
Once bright, his passed song's seat
Disused and sad and caked with dust
Like it, he is effete
He waits on fate to cut him down
A weakling's way to go
He ponders this then balls his fists
"I'll deal this final blow"
His very home is but a relic
Proclaiming he's alone
He feels misplaced
Outliving all he's known

His gaze falls upon
His open hands-once strong
Now sore-his knuckles
They're gnarled defective claws

Oh, to be the holder of one's fate
To refuse to die upon your knees
Your life is yours to take
He glances up, then abruptly stands
His lips curve in a sneer
Defiantly glaring at the wall,
He speaks so Hell can hear
"Time has taken everything I've ever loved
It's time I cut me loose now
From time's cruel claws all closing in
It's time I tie my noose"

No second thoughts
No hesitation in this moment
To spit upon the hand of fate
The rope is beckoning

His gaze falls upon
His open hands-once strong
Now swollen knuckles ache
They're gnarled defective claws

He takes back his life
By taking it
His final breaths
Through a dying grin
