Practically from Maine (2023 Remaster)
From Kittery to St. Francis, Booth Bay to Coburn Gore
Summers in the western mountains always left me wanting more
If you'd had walked in my shoes
There'd be no need to explain
How I came to reckon that I'm practically from Maine
Well, my father's father's fathers help this crazy claim ring good
They farmed them some potatoes and worked winters in the woods
Well, I've climbed the mountains, I've fished the streams
And I've camped out in the rain
So, the way I see it, mister, I'm practically from Maine
The truth is I'm a flatlander, but a Yankee nonetheless
I just tip my hat to the Pine Tree State when I'm trying to impress
I might stretch the truth with my northern roots
But it's a good tale just the same
And nobody's the wiser if I'm practically from Maine
Practically from Maine, well, I'll tell you what I mean
I swing an axe just like Paul Bunyan
Fueled on biscuits, franks, and beans
I could tie a fly before I could walk
I wrestled bears as a general rule
And when time came for my three Rs
Well, I rode a moose to school
Black flies and mosquitoes, they don't bother me at all
Long winters deep with snow
Why, that's just Down East protocol
I can build a fire in the pouring rain
Pitch a tent while I dress a deer
I can guide you through the woods
And even get you there from here
Near Stratton back in August of 1965
At a campsite by the lake, my mom and dad did lie
They got frisky in the tent, then I showed up next May
So biologically, buddy, you see I'm practically, factually
Actually from Maine
