Chasing a Dream (2023 Remaster)

There's this traffic light on my way home
From Christine's house
You can turn left or right, like I'm doing tonight
Or you can take it straight into town
I always make that left hand turn
That drives me home
Some nights I think twice about running that light
And taking off on my own
But there's something inside that I can't hide
That makes we wait till the light turns green
To go back to my street, though I feel incomplete
It can't be as bad as it seems
And I can always dream

There was this old junked car at my grandfather's house
In a forest across the field
Each time that I could I'd run to those woods
And just sit up behind the wheel
It was a big old Ford painted rusty and blue
With plates from '45
I'd roll up my sleeves, and I'd make believe
That I was going for a drive
Now I remember the time when the world seemed so kind
When my heartbeat used to scream
On the night's first star, I still think of that car
And I know just what it means
I'm chasing a dream, chasing a dream

Tonight I'll dream about that traffic light
And I'll dream about going straight
With that big old car and a map of the stars
I'll drive until I wake
'Cause in your childhood, it's all right to pretend
That you're something or somebody else
But when you lose your youth
You discover the truth
That you're just plain stuck with yourself
And every once in a while, you may crack a smile
Although you're bursting at the seams
But it ain't no crime to leave it behind
And go chasing for a dream

Chasing a dream, chasing a dream
Chasing a dream, chasing a dream
