21 Sun
Hmm... I'm layin' on the beach
It's beautiful
Feel the warmth of the sun on my skin
I hear waves crashin', dogs splashin'
Children playin', laughin'
So many blessin's I been given
So many lessons, I lived them
For the kids, so that I could assist them
Navigate that system that's often against them
Wisdom—weigh the pros and cons of each
Before you reach for this decision
But, full admission—I wrote this on a beach
To the beat you're now listenin'
Heat was sizzlin', sweat on my brow—believe it was glistenin'
Then look around at this seaside crowd
Seems to me that it might be Sicilian
Havaianas and cangas, "Summer Sambas" (so nice)
Now I wonder how it might be Brazilian
Either way, I've been here for days
Counted these waves, there might be a million
(There might be a billion)
I like to swim in them, then sit back with a bag o' grapes on ice
And sparkle water that's fizzlin'
Layin' in the summer sun
Give thanks when the day is done
I dreamed o' this in '21
Set the pace every race I run
Just pray I'm not the only one
They nailed me as a holy one
I sailed across the ocean, uh
Now all my ducks say "go Se-an"
Every day is an adventure, every day I check the weather
Barometric pressure, hot and heavy
I got ready with icy refreshers
This temperature might drive me to excess
So I try to provide protective measures
What's the price of my life o' leisure? Naughty or nice?
Just sit tight while I double check twice in my ledger
Might be a lot to measure
Might've signed "X-marks-the-spot"
Dug a lotta buried treasure out there in that dusty desert
But at night I still overbite, clench, grind right through my dentures
Sometimes the fright is relentless (what's it like in the trenches?)
What's it like on your hands and knees in the stenches
Scrubbing slime, grub, and grime just to keep bringing those checks in
Shoulder and neck tensions, arm overextensions
Oh those bills got quite expensive
Maybe that's why I'm quiet, pensive
Out in the street, I think I lost the connection
I wrote this song as a strong intervention
Layin' in the summer sun
Give thanks when the day is done
I dreamed o' this in '21
Set the pace every race I run
Just pray I'm not the only one
They nailed me as a holy one
I sailed across the ocean
Now all my ducks say "go Se-an"
"What's the matter fool?
You lookin' like a woebegone Obi-Wan Kenobi with Omicron"
"You know, the real—fle—eshy part of—part of the peach"
"Founded on bitter experience is the old saying
'A passage perilous maketh a port pleasant'
'Now strike your sails ye jolly mariners
For we be coming to a quiet road'"
