Social Cues

Tried getting into sports
And broke my arm
Felt cool when people signed it though
But then they took off the cast

But I got hit in the shin the next week
And got a pair of crutches
And people started to talk to me again
Asking to take turns with them

And I thought
What a good excuse
For the social cues
If you get battered and bruised
People will talk to you yeah
What a brilliant rouse lead them in
They'll never know how much you miss it

The social cues
The social cues

I'm not good at expressing my feelings
It's hard when you're always on your own
And kids can be mean
They'll pull your hair
Make you scream
And run away when you go crying home

And you know that boy who cried wolf (ow)
Oh how I idolised him
And how she'd always run to his side
Oh I begged for that kind of attention

And I thought
What a good excuse
For the social cues
If you get battered and bruised
People will talk to you (yeah)
What a brilliant rouse lead them in
They'll never know how much you miss it

The social cues
The social cues
The social cues
The social cues

And I watched all of the TV shows
And begged my mum to buy new clothes
To still come crying home after school
Moved around five times and how time flies
To still feel on the damn outside
Of every single friendship group
I'm meant to be growing up but shit hurts in your youth

Help me
I'm begging
Just waiting
For you to come back down

Social cues
The social cues
The social cues
The social cues

And I watched all of the TV shows (the social cues)
And begged my mum to buy new clothes
To still come crying home after school (the social cues)
Moved around five times and how time flies (the social cues)
To still feel on the damn outside
Of every single friendship group (the social cues)
I'm meant to be growing up but shit hurts in your youth
