poster CHILD
How you been poster child?
A minute you been posting up
But you ain't kept us posted in a while
What can I say man life been wild
Pop up in a function and it's
AYE
Where you been at?
Conversations steered around me
Like a course of cones
Course I'm prone to veer the whole discussion towards a plusher tone
Keep it lighthearted
Hearty laughter fill the room but not the void
Every catch up only feeling like a ploy deployed to catch me
To ask me how we filling up the stat sheet
Shoot
Well if you know you got me
Been putting in the working and asking God to match me
And now they see me as the poster child
Yea
Guess they see me as the poster child
I'm becoming the person that my homies used to know
In their stories told years down the line
Bout how we grew up in the same neighborhood
Or took buses at the same time
We used to hoop together he got hang time
The "yeah I used to know him"
Think that's my cousins cousin so we practically related
We just never had discussions
It's taking some adjustments but Nick he saw it coming
I'm just running in the ground he laid for me while I was budding
Living all the prayers that he'd told me I'd be running
The literary juggernaut he planned on me becoming
So failure not an option even setbacks hard to stomach
When your appetite for greatness make the meals seem unbecoming
Cause I wanna be the poster child
Wow
I just wanna be the poster child
I know we all try
I can't wait for my time
To stand in the limelight
I pray that I'm gone shine
Yeah I know we all try
I can't wait for my time
To stand in the limelight
I pray that I'm gone shine
Gone shine
I've seen this once before in my incubation
Adjacent to my growing amazement with syncopation
Another star was being birthed in a nearing constellation
I happened to hear the sounds of them breaking pavement one day
In my 7th grade class was a kid that I had some bouts with
Mostly amounted to counts of me being unsure
We jousted over bravado I dealt cause I couldn't swallow my pride
He joking with me but can't take it in stride
His name Taylor
And one day at lunch tables
The cypher it open up and I listened but wouldn't say nun
They don't know that I rap and it wasn't my space to take up
But Taylor he start freestyling and suddenly pick the pace up
That boy nice and I heard that his brother write
Check 'em out they was right
Few years later he dropped a tape called 10 DAY
And it changed his life
So if he can do it why can't I
I know we all try
I can't wait for my time
To stand in the limelight
I pray that I'm gone shine
Yeah I know we all try
I can't wait for my time
To stand in the limelight
I pray that I'm gone shine
Gone shine
Funny how life work
I'm in college now
Communications notes that I'm jotting down in a class
When my phone flash
I dash to the door
It's a call about a show called Rhythm and Flow
I put my application in a week ago
They tell me they want me on it I'm thinking that mean we on
I'm at the crib rehearsing I got Will on speaker phone
I was certain this would put me on the throne when talking ranks
Got to the auditions I was first to hit the stage
Chance was there to judge it what a funny show of fate
Short regards
Movement towards
Moving on died
I did not advance but still the movement caught strides
Far and wide approval of the dream we comprised
Into maneuvers that would bring us towards the proof of enterprise
Proving prudent through brutish test of faith
In which I brooded over letting go of dreams
That I had fought for many times
Doubts that minimized as we quickly grew the shrine
Through and through we shined
Was on the Wyclef album
Biggest worry was still getting to my 8AM on time
I still relish them times
Back at home my stock up
Proof of all the work that me and Ro then had to stock up
Doing city pops ups
But nothing like the crib
One of my biggest fears
Is once you make it big
You start to hit a ceiling
And so you gotta live
Your journey in a place that may be foreign to your build
Just to break the seal
But the goal to change the culture so
I'd rather do it here
I know we all try
I can't wait for my time
To stand in the limelight
I pray that I'm gone shine
Gone shine gone shine
Your time
My time
Shine
Shine
Time to wake up
Gotta make that bacon
Time to make it do what it do
Time to do it
Let's go let's work
A minute you been posting up
