American Spirits

The walls folded and I fell between the lines
Landed in a forest somewhere outside of time
Slow exhale smoke burns cold
Took off my mask it was time I suppose

Deep in the wood I met with a man
Your time has not come you must do what you can
You share your heart with that of the land
This is your last chance to make your stand
Last of his people he protects the wood
Demons approached but firmly he stood
Held his ground long after he should
Walked among the trees even as they burned

Never opened his mouth but still he spoke
Eyes held wisdom from so long ago
Lifetimes passed in a blue they moved slow
Walked down his path showed me his road

I asked where are we it looks like a dream
I asked who am I he said that door ain't free
Stay on the shore until you must leave
Follow your trail and listen to the trees
What am I doin here it'll soon be clear
Protect those you love when the shadows draw near
You'll feel their sorrows and may shed their tears
Feed your light and the dark will fear

I'll stay in the shadows cuz that is what I know
Till I reach that lodge white as snow
On my feet till my time is through
Into the black from out of the blue

He said you've been alone in these woods for so long
Left your path and lost your way my son
The night is darkest just before the dawn
So I'll take your hand but just keep holdin on
Nothin left to say was time for me to go
Wanted to stay but it was time for my road
Bend the shadows like water over stone
I Fear no evil cuz my soul is my own

The spark that ignites the flame
The drop that breaks the dam
The one with wings born amongst the lambs
Becomes a wolf disguised as a ram
