And it's late afternoon with a softening light
And a slackening breeze and a tree in my sight

Watch the fractalling leaves in a shimmying wave
And the shading of green into brown
And the roots underneath they will save what they save
Til it's late in the fall and the leaves blow around

Some scratches and scrapes but nothing is torn
I can sway with the breeze like the elm cross the way
While the traffic picks up here I'm just gonna stay
