Something Meaningless

A tattered chair. I sit at midnight.
I turned the chair to face the wall.
I think there's something else between them.
I can't remember what at all.

And I became a gilded mirror
Viewed myself across the space
This new condition lasting longer
Started counting months not days

And now I
See you
From two
Miles further in my head
Have no
More faith
That this will ever end

Take a look at my empty journal
Take a look at my empty cage
I know there's some of me in there somewhere
And now you watch me try to ride it out.

Unwilling squinting into daylight
Unwelcome rebirth every day
With effort raise a crooked smile
Just be quick, it fades away

Expressionless, a fist of money
I think I did something meaningless today
There never was a high endeavour
Or any noble course to stay

Because I
In truth
Am two
Unique and separate men
Don't try
To think
If this will ever end

Take a look at my empty journal
Take a look at my empty cage
I know there's some of me in there somewhere
And now you watch me try to ride it out.

I'll accept your help now
