Dustbowl

There ain't much left to my name
Except the ground beneath my feet
And soon they'll find a way
To wrestle that away from me

When the role is called on high
I'll be there to sign my name
Along with every pair of callused hands
That felled the trees in my way

I wait up most nights
With a gun in my hand
Just waitin' on a daylight
That I might never see again

There's nothin' left here but the dust
That the sun left behind
I break my back but it's never enough
To bring this dead world back to life

It just breaks my heart
To see the sun climb over the hill
And look down on my little dustbowl
With empty fields sat deadly still

You see the ruins on the ground
Only I remember what they've been
I'll be the very last wall to fall down
I hope the dust remembers me then

Yeah
