Me and You

First day of school so many years ago
Remember I walked in and felt all alone
I set down my bag, at the foot of my desk
And had no idea what would happen next
And when the teacher would ask the class
I'd know the answer but never raise my hand
Then I'd look across, across the room
Wishing I could be as fearless as you

But you never had the answer
But never let that stop you try
You'd say life's not about the dances
But about the people by your side

How on earth did we become best friends
Never did I think you'd be my guy until the end
Some things in life do not make sense
But it's me and you, fighting through together

You held me up and helped me grow
And I gave you the answers you didn't know
You stayed by my side, through thick and thin
No matter what our lives would bring
But then I met a girl and settled down
And our friendship turned from rain to drought
I'd never find the time, no matter how you'd try
I wish that I could have realised

And I wish I had the answers
But now there's nothing left to save
I wish that I could turn the clock straight back to the times
When I'd say

How on earth did we become best friends
Never did I think you'd be my guy until the end
Some things in life do not make sense
But it's me and you, fighting through together

Over the years I've tried to make amends
And recently we got back to where I'd say that we were friends
But all good things must come to an end
You've had enough, and you've turned your back
And I keep asking myself

How on earth did I lose my best friend
What happened to my guy until the end
It's just another thing that does not make sense
But me and you, this time it's through forever
