Cold Night Sweats

Well, the night ain't cold when you're burning
And the devil's out leading the way
He knows a little detour, or at least I heard him say
But I'm on him like a cold sweat,
That's been collecting at his brow
And he's regretting the price he paid
For a soul that's seen better days

I'm out back taking my time
And i'm wasted-
On a few too many disappearing white lines
It's the big lies-
that end up changing the tide
And sink ships with all our quips
We say to ease our anxious minds

Well, I left my baggage at the airport
To hide the many wars I've waged
And there's barely a thing left inside me
Except what's fairly set in shame
Is that a fire in your eyes, babe?
Or just the glaring of a vacancy sign?
Well, I've seen it lit up every night
Inviting me to come inside

I'm out back taking my time
And i'm wasted-
On a few too many disappearing white lines
It's the big lies-
that end up changing the tide
And sink ships with all our quips
We say to ease our anxious minds
