The Concrete Boys (Take Heed)
Step back, step back to notice
That our minds are so malnourished
And life's so chronic that it's become ironic
And all I ever ask is questions of
"Do we really know each other?
And how can we go on living further?
So what's this album really been about?"
I think it's things I understand and others I've yet to work out
And I'll continue writing some songs
That nobody will listen to, but I can still sing along
Along the streets, where everyone is drunk
And what does it say when culture tells you not to think as much?
So I think I'll dissolve my head
Pickle it in acid and send my body to bed
And I'm sorry to be so acerbic
But I know that life isn't quite as idyllic as you'd think
And I know I'm sorry, but it's the best I could do
And if the best isn't good enough, I'll apologise to you
I knew, I knew this was worth living
But now, that meaning's gone, every fucking thing's gone missing
So hold your breath
And we will slip the surly bonds of earth together, earth together
So hold your breath
And we will slip the surly bonds of earth forever, earth forever
So let's be average or let's be special
Let's douse ourselves, become strong like metal
I know you need convincing, but I can't convince enough
So if you don't want it, the attention will go soon enough (let it go)
It's 'cause of you, I think the world needs fulfilled
'Cause there's too many vacuous people that don't thrill
And I had a vision that this was all fiction
Yeah, I had a vision that you'd just been fiction
And we could drunkenly walk into sheets
Fall into each other until we meet
Clamber into heads, but then face empty beds
Now that we've parted, guess it ends how it started
Step back, step back to notice
That the world was standing here before us
We sound so much better when the notes come together
Yeah, we always sounded better when the notes came together
And I know I'm sorry, but it was the best I could do
And if the best isn't good enough, I'm not for you
For you, I knew, this was worth living
But now we're gone, the moment's gone fucking missing
So I hold my breath
And then I slip the surly bonds of earth forever, earth forever
So I hold my breath
And then I slip the surly bonds of earth forever, earth forever
But you just stand and say
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la, la-la-la-la
