Ten Years (Stripped)

It's hard to believe
All the time has passed
Ten years gone by
Never thought I'd last
Without you

As he took his final breath
He could see the time he had left
And it aches to know
It was all for show
The smiles and disguises
The fronts to hide the pain
As he lies alone in the rain
With body broken, his spirit's chosen
To leave this place, to throw the race
With heart torn open
And lips sewn shut
He leaves without a word of goodbye
As his soul fades into the sky

It's hard to believe
All the time has passed
Ten years gone by
Never thought I'd last
Your smile, it's been a while now
I hope your looking down
And that you're happy now
Happy now

As the curtain falls
He took his final breath
As the darkness calls
Is this what they call death
The bullet from his own hand
Left behind a smoldering brand
The ceiling was painted crimson red
The weight of the world
Was too much to shoulder
His faith in his fellow man
Had slowly turned to horror
How could we not see his suffering
Til the day the gunpowder left a
Deafening ring

This song was written for a good friend
Of mine in high school who committed suicide
None of us saw it coming, he hid it so well
And before we knew it he was gone
This goes out to anyone struggling with thoughts of ending it all
Get help, find someone to talk to
You matter, you may not see it but you are important
Don't give up on yourself, keep fighting
Because it will get better
Just because you can't see the end of the tunnel
Does not mean it's not there
Hope is just around the corner

It's hard to believe
All the time has passed
Ten years gone by
Never thought I'd last
Your smile, it's been a while now
I hope your looking down
And that you're happy now
Happy now
