Novel

Watching your mouth move in the dark
Driving in circles outside of the bar
And I look so cool, I tell you nonchalant, I've always wished to be kissed to this song
You wait for the bridge and you don't miss a beat
Mystery man of my vilest dreams
I knew the course of my life had been tipped
I'd spend it chasing the taste of your lips

And I'd let you learn me with your eyes closed
Just filling in details but I'm someone that you've always known

Hot summer wind, staring at the moon
Hard conversations on top of the roof
And just when I think the moment is ruined
You say you're sorry I had to go through it
I had an injury, nearly broke my ankle
From dancing too hard, kicking your kitchen table
Had no regrets till the whole thing turned black
Hurt like a bitch but it did make you laugh

I let you absorb it, like we grew up just the same
We know this is worth it, sharing the burden
All our collective mistakes

Head on your chest, it falls and it rises
Tell me your family's Christmas traditions
And I've never found myself fond of surprises
But you make the assumption that I will be in them
Before we met I once stalked you online
You had a girlfriend and I had too much wine
Joking with my friends, I'm not even threatened
Someday when we're older we might be together

I let you write me into your novel
I don't take it lightly when you go down fighting
Defending my honor
The stakes are the ceiling, we'll write the timeline
And I've never felt unafraid in my lifetime
But if a good God does exist I think we were created for this
