Teach Me Again

Teach me again of redemptive glimpses
Of the sweet song of "Daddy" from innocent lips
Teach me of love, to pour out above
A hand on my shoulder where gravity rules

I want to make you proud
But I know that's not what it's about

Teach me again the song of the rose
Not to get hung up on poetry and prose
Teach me again the meaning of survivors
To always point my knees toward water

Teach me to lean in the center of God's will
And use the shovel here in my hand
Teach me that two sinners together
Will not make something beautiful alone

I want to make you proud
But I know that's not what it's about

Teach me that trees don't seek their pleasure
The slings and arrows of yesterday leap/sleep
Teach me to hold, but not hold too tightly
The joys of this world, to cherish them gently
