City Talk

There the bluebird talks
Then the bluebird runs
We're never free
And the distance never meets

When angels sigh they spread their wings
And snatch a piece of me
I'll melt them all
They'll step aside
And catch one breath at least

She leant beneath the deck
She felt an awe beneath her spine
And I lay down before her
As she captured all my eyes

Formed things
Of dried rings
When the bluebird talks and talks
Of metal wings

And warm breath
That's all I've left
When the captain falls beneath the deck
In chequered metal vest
There's one thing
I've been asking
Is there place enough for me to stay one night at least

Take me into your neck
I'll hold your thorns and all your vines
I'll lay my plans to waste
And her metal wings will rise inside
