Seeking Something

Will this questioning always be around
Did our ancestors ever figure out
What all this fuss is about

And I wake up half asleep in a fever sometimes
Shake the sheets off my legs, give me a minute, I'll be fine
Is this design or just a lie

And it seems to me we're all out here seeking something
Just a slight of hand or a magic show to give it meaning
I've seen mountain peaks, hell I've seen it all, and still I'm pleading
Are we all just seeking something

And I sink into the branch of the tallest longleaf pine
A tapestry of questions rolling through my aching mind
Is it nature or is it divine

And it seems to me we're all out here seeking something
Just a picture show or a matinee to keep me believing
Put me on your back, let me reach up and touch the ceiling
Are we all just seeking something

Will this questioning always be around
Did our ancestors ever figure out what all this fuss is about
