The West Coast

The road feels long and cold
She eyes the flowers she left on the ground
She bends, but she'll never fold
She wears those dark glasses because she's still proud

She thinks she's hard enough
She's taken everything that God's tossed in her way
But hasn't it been long enough?
As she cries in bed
It's been hours but she's still awake

And all she says is, "Stay"
He wraps her in his arms and they rock the night away
And what else is he gonna say?
'Cause he loves her as sure as the night breaks into day

"Baby, something's gotta give sooner or later, so why not now?
This fever's getting hotter, and harder to sweat out
And I feel like going under
But I can't give up just yet
'Cause the West Coast calls and we'll make it tonight, I bet"

The road feels long and cold
He eyes the flowers that she left on the ground
He pretends like he'll never fold
He sees through the dark glasses and he thinks, "Oh, how
Oh, how the seasons change
It's been a long cold winter and I'm finally ready for spring"
Sometimes that's all it takes
She stands up in his arms and they try to walk away

She grabs his arm and says, "Wait"
He turns to her and she knows what he's going to say
"Baby, we can't stay
Ah, yeah
We'll run together forever and one more day"

"Baby, something's gotta give sooner or later, so why not now?
This fever's getting hotter, and harder to sweat out
And I feel like going under
But I can't give up just yet
'Cause the West Coast calls and we'll make it tonight, I bet"

The road feels long and cold
But it calls to me and I don't wanna wait another day
Sometimes that's all it takes
She stands up in his arms and we try to walk away
