You closed your eyes after the sun went down
Thoughts came in waves and you began to drown
You lifted your head up to stay alive
Then noticed how the water
It satisfied
Though it was euphoric
It could equally kill
Nothing hindered this flood that you
Tried to conceal

What seemed unaccepted
You justified your sins
The antidote was running back to your
Fantasy over and over again

That mask won't hide your tears for long

Finding something else to embrace

Across this secluded desert
As the wind it blows you down
You plead to get back up
But you remain stuck inside the ground
You thirst for a cure to dehydration
But continue sitting inside your procrastination

Rattled off confessions
And crossed your heart
Smiled and marched forward declaring a brand new start
But with each night came a brand new set
Of struggles and fantasies that you soon regret

So much inside of us that longs to be spoken
So many habits we love that long to be broken
Blood spilled for all we have inside
Release your confessions, reveal what you hide

You hid your stash, swept the dirt under the rug
You played it off as innocence a shallow grave you dug
This newfound ecstasy it became your new drug
Like the animal inside of you, you brushed off with a shrug
Faked your way through meetings and held on to your old facade
And offered grace to yourself and you never found that odd
You disciplined yourself with your own staff and rod
So that no one would criticize, you became your own god
