The Brazen Bull

All my love breeds strife
Fingers losing hold again
The quiet stage bereft of life
No one's a lover, no one's a friend
Sleepless eyes so violent
Crooked hands belay the night
The storm is fierce yet silent
The effigy aflame the only light

Withered, forlorn
The vast decay of my design
Behold my scorn
I tear the page from its spine

All my guilt subsides
As the darkness bleeds me dry
The player beset where hopes will die
Under crooked sunless sky
All this rage inside
Boils within my cold veneer
The carcass screams, then sighs
The one you knew is no longer here

Withered, forlorn
The vast decay of my design
Behold my scorn
I tear the page from its spine

The streetlight burns and the shadows bare their teeth
The morning mist washes away the colors of the world
The noise grows like some ancient beast from the abyss
Swallowing the sun as it tears through my heart

Flies encircle the pyre
No blood left to flow
Flesh engulfed by the fire
How bright the bones glow
Bellows scream ever higher
One last act of the show
Free from love and desire
Bright as gold my bones glow

Withered, forlorn
The vast decay of my design
Behold my scorn
I tear the page from its spine
