By the Roadside

I can't remember the last time that we sat
By the roadside
And felt the river gently track the time
As it flowed by
Have we been here before?
Could there be something more?
Or was it just a long-forgotten dream?

Is it safe enough to move ahead,
In the moonlight?
Or should we wait the night and try again,
With the sunrise?
If we stop to catch our breath,
Can we get back what we left?
What will rise up from this chapter's end?

Because I
I'm running out of places to call mine
I'm running out of space and out of time

We left the city's chaos far behind
(And now we're here)
But I can't escape the voices in my mind
(Or all my fear)
There's always something new, always
Something more to do
Just trying to stay alive until we're dead

But I
I'm running out of places to call mine
I'm running out of space and out of time
I'm running out of ways to ease my mind, sick of
Living in a haze to meet the grind
Running out of days to live my life, always
Looking for another wave to ride
