Consumed By The Earth

It's simple and optimistic to think that we're all lucky to be alive
For someone like me whose luck ran out
Tie a rope around my throat, it's the only way I'd bring you joy

I wear these scars
Jagged artwork to pull apart
Mind from body, heart from soul
Live a life of giving nothing more
I can't forget the things I learned from a once great friend and the respect he earned
I watched my hope for humanity lowered down and consumed by the earth

Lowered down and consumed by the earth
He'll never leave me
He'll never leave me
I still hear him
He's not the only one
If he's happy there then I should join him

He repeats the words you speak
Did it mean the same to you, or was it to hide the truth?
Still by his bed remains a broken picture frame
The memories wither away
I would place his suffering upon myself if it meant that he could reclaim who he was before
I have much less time and he's my reason for being
He needs to guide but his light is depleting
A hopeful message to my only son

As I come to grips with who I really am
I watch all of my fears sink into the ground, enclosed in a casket
And if offended by the right hand, then cut it off and start again
