The Girl from Pizza Express (Worktape)

Nancy moved her stuff into my place
And it's been one fight after another for months
But I could never break up with that face
So I just order up her favourite pizza for lunch

Yeah, yeah, oh-oh

There's knock knock knockin' at my door
A little small talk, ten dollar bill, and those eyes
Nancy's yelling for me from indoors
And the pizza girl can tell that I'm dying inside

She's been here many times before
Smiling at me through my screen door
On the inside top of the pizza box
There's a note on a Post-It
And so I read for a moment, and it says

"I know you'd order pepperoni before she got here
So tell me is this what you really want?
If she's the one, then I hope you just ignore me, but to be clear
I hate to see you order something for someone you're not"

Yeah, yeah, oh-oh

I never really learned to ask for what I want
But when I moved in and I hung the last frame
I ordered pepperoni, it hit the spot
And it became my go-to order from the local pizza place

Nancy's sweet but she's not afraid
To tell me what she wants every day
So every Friday night I realize
I never make up my own mind
And then the Pizza Girl rolls up into my drive

"I know you'd order pepperoni before she got here
So tell me is this what you really want?
If she's the one, then I hope you just ignore me, but to be clear
I hate to see you order something for someone you're not"

Yeah, yeah, oh-oh

I let Nancy hold on to the apartment
I've been trying to figure out what I want from my life
I'm pulling all my stuff out of boxes
I came across the Post-It note and it gave me a smile

"I know you'd order pepperoni before she got here
So tell me is this what you really want?
If she's the one, then I hope you just ignore me, but to be clear
I hate to see you order something for someone you're not"

I owe it all to the Girl from Pizza Express
Never knew pepperoni counted as subtext, yeah
When I get my head straight and think about what I want next
Think I might send a text out to the girl from Pizza Express

Yeah, yeah, oh-oh
