Summer Ends

It's been hard to reach you since I left my innocence at home
Weaned off of ignorance, what do I know

Never knew I could fit my life in a car
Dad's lost in the boxes, mom's falling apart
Maybe I'm dramatic, always knew it'd be hard
Would have never expected I'd be leaving my heart

New things are taking shape, we thought that they'd never change
The views and empty rooms are just not hittin' the same
I lay in my bed thinking about back then
I'm gone, I'll be out when the summer ends

I'm heading northbound, I'm pushing 73
Speedrunning back roads, a thousand miles a week for her to see me
But she won't lose any sleep for me

I'll take the night shifts working, I gotta pay rent
Cause it sure beats being anxious in bed
Between the 3 a.m. showers, picking up extra hours
At least I won't have any regrets

New things are taking shape, we thought that they'd never change
The views and empty rooms are just not hittin' the same
I lay in my bed thinking about back then
I'm gone, I'll be out when the summer ends

(I'll be out when the summer ends)
