Union Square

Wake up in a hotel room to the rhythm of a pouring rain
Make your way to the corner, hop aboard a downtown train
People on the crosstown bus, staring into space
Talking into cell phones about nothing at all
On the window beside you, a reflection of your own face
As the rain outside continues to fall
Looking down from an upstairs window, people hurry across the square
Unfurling umbrellas, huddling against the chilly air
Meet a friend for coffee in the third floor café
Talking about everything and nothing at all
Whiling away a lazy morning, wishing you could spend the whole day
Maybe, a chance to meet again in the fall?
Some friendships rise, other ones fall
But old friends
Old friends
Old friends are the best friends of all
Comes the day to say goodbye; take your leave and a bus to the plane
With a suitcase full of memories, wondering when you'll be back again
Friends say they'll miss you, you tell them you wish you could stay
As you set your watch for another time zone
That's when it hits you, the truth you've been hiding all day
It's a nice place to visit
A very nice place to visit
It's a nice place to visit, but it's no longer home
