I Can't Wait to See You Again
Last Sunday back in Tupelo
I thought that I'd stop by
And talk to you and Daddy for awhile
So stopped and bought a single rose
Headed up Saltillo road
To that little church back there in the woods
I headed out beneath the trees
Ended up there on my knees
And wiped my hand across that marble stone
I was just a child again
And you were sittin on my bedside
Praying God would make your boy
Into the perfect man
But I still wear my jeans to church on Sunday mornings
And I still bite my nails although I've tried to quit
But I think that you'd be proud of me
If you could see my kids
And I can't wait to see you again
I remember you and me
That little house in Tennessee
And Daddy couldn't seem to catch his breath
Then the sirens blared and the fire trucks came
And he didn't answer when you called his name
And we both knew he wasn't coming back
Then life got busy, life got tough
And I didn't see you near enough
And every conversation, seemed to cause us pain
But I'm still trying to be the son you always wanted me to be
Though sometimes I still say things I regret
But I hope that you've forgiven me for the things I said back then
Cause I can't wait to see you again
The last time I was in this place
We all sang Amazing Grace
Hoping it would help our hearts to mend
Oooo and I know that you can't hear me now
But God I wish someway somehow
You could hear just what I'm trying to say.
Though I still, wear my jeans to church on Sunday morning
And though I bite my nails you know I've tried to quit
And here's a rose I bought for you that I should've bought back then
And I can't wait to see you
You know I'd love to see you
I can't wait to see you again
I thought that I'd stop by
And talk to you and Daddy for awhile
So stopped and bought a single rose
Headed up Saltillo road
To that little church back there in the woods
I headed out beneath the trees
