Snakes and Corporate Ladders

You must be happy
Living life the way you do
You must be happy
But I would loathe me if I were you

I have trouble being just as driven
Go tell your boss I say hello
If their call for help were better written
I would see right through them

All those around me seem so obsessed
To be an empty shell
Of what they were
And what they wanna be

Just go ask all my friends
The new standard of success
Is working unpaid
For a start-up company

And I just wanna know
If I'm alone
To want a soul
To call their own
I want money just like everyone else
But I draw the line on what to sell
When it comes to my
Time and dignity

Or did I just concede to laziness
I respectfully reject
Refer to my
Sanctimony
Toiling away
As a corporate slave
Has never been the way
I wished to waste my days
But starving everyday
While I'm late on all the dues I have to pay
Makes me confess
That despite all I said
I wish I'd be someone worthwhile like all of my friends
You must be happy
Living life the way you do
You must be happy
I'd be you if I could choose

I have trouble being just as driven
But please tell your boss I say hello
If my resume were better written
They would see right through me too
